Manchester Artists' Book Fair 2013:

Digitally Printed:

The Velvet Cell

Printers:

T.snapes: Having used this printers in the past I would happily use T.Snapes again as they are fast and efficient; Ideal for a professionally finished, cheaper black and white type A5 book for roughly under a tenner. They're located in town too which is ideal for discussing exactly what you want.

Newspaper Club

The Newspaper Club: I really like the idea of producing a newspaper as the final product as I have not made one before and it would be an interesting process, and with any luck, final product. Reliant heavily on cost though, as you'd have to buy at least 5 for it to be worthwhile; the cost of which is over twenty pounds.

Vistaprint/Snapfish: These are two printers I have used in the past too, both of which give you an opportunity to produce a neatly finished hardback cover book. Snapfish produces slightly nicer prints in my opinion however vistaprint is definitely the cheaper alternative, whilst still maintaining a good quality print. I'd have to factor in printing and delivery time if I went with these options as well as cost.

Handmade Books:

Binding Techniques:

I found these really useful video tutorials on Youtube by Sea Lemon explaining a variety types of bookbinding:

Stapling a book together is probably the simplest and most used  method to quickly make a book, however I I think this looks slightly cheap and want a more homemade approach to mine. Similarly with the spiral bind, I have used this method in the past, however I had the proper equipment available at the time and I don't think this would suit the homemade style I'm looking for.

I really like the idea of stitching mine together as I have made a handsewn book before so I am familiar with the technique. Previously I have handstitched my own book together however at the time I used running stitch not being very confident at sewing. The following sewing tutorials I have found look very simplistic and professional; I really like the japanese style binding however I feel that as I want to make a zine type book it would distract from the cover images overall so I am going to opt for the simpler saddle stitch binding.
